John Richard Hovious, Jr. Son of John Richard HOVIOUS and Mary MOORE. A long-time Hovious researcher, he has been a major compiler of research used in this web project. Born in Massachusetts in 1928. Married Mary Lee COWAN [1931-1994] in 1952 in Nashville, TN. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1949. He retired from the Post Office in 1983 after working 33 years. Mary graduated from Peabody College in 1961. She retired from teaching school in Metro Nashville in 1986 after working 25 years. Mary Hovious died on 3 November 1994.

Preceded in death by wife, Mary Lee Cowan Hovious in 1994 and sister, Roxane Maddux. Survived by sons, Dr. John R. (Beth) Hovious III of Bristol, TN and James W. (Phyllis) Hovious of Soddy Daisy, TN; grandchildren, Erin Hovious, Kyle Hovious, Walt Hovious and Patrick Hovious; brother-in-law, Jim Maddux. Burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
