Tom Humphress in 1948Tom Humphress. James T. Humphress. Son of Elizabeth HOVIOUS and James C. HUMPHRESS. Born in Knifley, KY in 1873.

More about Tom from his second cousin Marie Hovious Moser: "Cousin Tom and his brother worked to build the Panama Canal. His brother died of yellow fever there. Tom was truly the most unforgettable person I have ever met. He would tell me about his adventures. He was a ship's captain for many years. While working in Panama, he was told to take a ship to a certain place on the coast of South America to get the natives to let them have a certain kind of sand they needed. He anchored the ship and waited. The next day the natives came out in their little boats to greet them. Cousin Tom had asked for plenty of ice to give the natives. They got the sand, but I have no idea how much or how they managed to get it to the ship anchored out in the water."

Tom Humphress died on 4 October 1952.
