Rebecca Hovious. Daughter of William HOVIOUS and Kitty CARREL. Born in Kentucky, 14 November 1826 (?). By 1830 she was living in Green County with her mother and stepfather, Benjamin Metcalf. Rebecca married Alfred Payne GRAINGER, in Livingston County, KY on 16 Dec 1847. Alfred was then a tailor by profession; he was a widower, with two small children. In 1850 Rebecca was taking care of her young nephew Samuel Hovious, after her brother Silas went west in the Gold Rush. Later in the 1850s, the Graingers went west as well, taking the overland route via Springfield, Missouri, Salt Lake City, Denver City, Virginia City and Lake Tahoe before stopping at Mud Springs. Alfred died in Sacramento, Ca., on 7 December 1863. Children:
Rebecca lived in San Mateo County in 1870 and was married to Franklin Hendrix, a 33-year-old farmer from Kentucky. By 1880 she, Frank and her son Alfred were back at Mud Springs. Rebecca is reported to have died in Plymouth, California, on 7 February 1894.
