Elizabeth Hovious. Daughter of William HOVIOUS and Sarah HARDING. Born in Green County, KY in 1797. Known as Betsy Hovious. Betsy is mentioned as having been received as a member of Pitman Creek Baptist Church on 1 October 1814, and is also listed as a Church member on 6 May 1819. She is also mentioned in her maternal grandfather Stephen Harding's will, dated 25 February 1815. She, along with each of her two sisters Nancy and Susannah, was to draw 1/18 share of Stephen Harding's estate upon its partition. She married William HUMPHRESS, in Green Co., Kentucky, on 7 May 1822. The wedding was performed by Rev. John Harding, a first cousin of Betsy's. William Humphress (b.1801, Virginia) was a farmer. William seems to have died in 1851, and Betsy, in January 1870. Their children lived in Adair County.

    Children:

Thanks to Betty Hovious Hollowell for material on Betsy Hovious; additional information drawn from the 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860 and 1870 US Censuses, the death certificate of James Humphress, and Adair County birth & death records, as well as a 1958 document written by James B. Hovious mentioning "my grandpa Humphress, his name Dick". To the best of my knowledge, my research is the first to correctly identify and name Richard A. Humphress as William and Betsy's child; Richard only appeared on one Adair County census, being in Taylor Co. in 1850 and dead by 1870
